A major extension of the work of RDA Coleraine for persons with disabilities will be the introduction of a OWLS Sports Club, and an attempt to co-ordinate the opportunities for sport for persons with a disability in the area.
This will be promoted mainly by the recently appointed Sports Development Officer. This post has been supported by a grant from SportNI , and Michelle Scott has been appointed. Michelle has previously worked with Sport North East, based at Coleraine Borough Council, and at Magherafelt District Council, so she has a good knowledge of the area and the needs. Michelle will be working closely with the Schools and Adult Centres, and the Sports/Leisure Sections of the Councils at Coleraine, Ballymoney, Limavady and Moyle.
New Age Kurling has been operating informally for several weeks, and Archery will commence on Saturday 27th February with a Taster Day, followed by an 8 week Introductory Course.
Funding has been obtained to cover the cost of Bocce Equipment, so this new sport will follow soon.
Some of the Sports to be offered will be delivered in conjunction with with other Sports Club Partners.
