The past year at the centre has been very successful for volunteers and riders. I am pleased to report that 7 riders from Harpurs Hill Primary schools successfully completed the ASDAN certificate in Animal Care and were awarded their certificates at their recent School Prize Day Ceremony. Everyone at RDA Coleraine would like to extend their warmest congratulations to all involved.
The ASDAN Animal Care Course will be offered again, commencing in September 2010 - anyone seeking more information, or wishing to take part in the programme is advised to contact Rosie Clyde, Youth Leader. ()28 7032 0147).
In addition to the success of the riders, there have been successes for the young volunteers who so diligently attend and selflessly help at the riding sessions. 28 young persons successfully completed a Community Volunteering Qualification, and gained 45 UCAS points. We are pleased to report that several candidates confirmed their university places as a result of their CVQ points. The young persons, attended the centre an hour prior to each riding session to undertake the coursework needed for the certificate, and became involved in several of the tasks laid out in the syllabus, e.g., Fund raising, Planning a riding lesson. The students have worked incredibly hard and we would like to congratulate them on their success and wish them all the best in their chosen careers.
In future years we hope to extend the number of courses available to riders and volunteers, to include such certificates as employability awards, Transition Challenge, (which works along side the National Curriculum in schools) as well as providing CCV and Animal Care.
Anyone wishing to have further information on the CVQ certificate, or would like to apply for the course commencing Oct 2010, please contact Rosie Clyde, Youth Leader.
