Rules for Riders

General Rules for the Care & Safety of Riders & Attendants

  • Supervisors & Riders should enter the premises by the front door PULLING THE RIGHT HAND DOOR ONLY – NOTE:- the ‘PUSH BUTTONS’ are provided for use ONLY by persons with a significant handicap. Incorrect use can lead to excessive strain on the system, and will be considered to be an offence. Similarly the Building contains many sophisticated systems – with switches and buttons, etc, in strange places – these MUST not be touched without specific authority, and again incorrect use will be regarded as an offence
  • Generally access to the upper Viewing Galleries will be restricted during RDA Sessions. The Lift System is not yet operational, but eventually it will be available only to persons with physical disabilities.
  • The Supervisor should have ensured that all relevant document has been completed and accepted by the Youth Leader on behalf of the RDA BEFORE they bring a Rider to the Arena – THEY WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE UNTIL ALL RELEVANT PAPERWORK HAS BEEN ACCEPTED – THIS IS AN INSURANCE REQUIREMENT
  • Rider or Supervisor should ensure that their attendance is recorded at reception (you may provide a Group List)
  • Riders enter the waiting area – accompanied by and under the control of their supervisor/parent – Riders must not go past the Barrier which is level with Tack Room Door – for riders requiring specialist equipment their supervisor may assist in ‘tacking-up’ the horse appropriately
  • Riders should collect their equipment at the hatch and dress as necessary
  • Riders must REMAIN in the waiting/mounting UNTIL THEY ARE CALLED TO MOUNT by the Instructor
  • When all Riders are Mounted, Supervisors may retire to the Clubroom, BUT they must return for to the Assembly Area to supervise Riders while dismounting is in progress
  • After the ride, dismounting will take place in mounting area only – either at ramp, or if Instructor so indicates, directly to the ground
  • Riders will then retire behind the barrier to the waiting area and change as necessary and return their riding hat and other equipment (if any) to the hatch
  • After appropriate use of the floor matting to clean their feet, etc, Riders and Supervisors may retire to the Clubroom for refreshments, served through the Hatch – only the designated Helper may enter the Kitchen (Hygiene & H&S).
